When to Call an Emergency Electrician

Electrical emergencies don’t wait for business hours. If you’re smelling burning, seeing sparks, or your home has lost power after a storm, call immediately. We cover the entire Sunshine Coast 24/7 with a licensed electrical contractor on every callout.

What We Do

1

Power Loss

Complete or partial power loss in your home or business. We isolate the fault, restore power where safe, and make permanent repairs.
2

Sparking Outlets

Sparks, blackening, or buzzing from power points. Turn off the circuit and call us — this is a fire risk that can’t wait.
3

Burning Smells

Any burning plastic smell near switches, lights, or the switchboard is an emergency. Electrical fires kill — don’t ignore it.
4

Storm Damage

Lightning strikes, power surges, tree branches on lines, flood damage. We coordinate with Energex for supply issues.
5

Switchboard Failure

Breakers that won’t reset, smoking boards, melted components. We isolate, diagnose, and replace the same visit where possible.
6

Safety Switch Tripping

Repeated RCD trips that won’t reset. Often indicates a hidden fault in wiring or an appliance. We locate and fix it.

What to Do Before We Arrive

A few steps that can keep you safe while you wait:

  • Burning smell or visible smoke: Turn the main switch off at the switchboard if it’s safe to approach. Evacuate the area. Call 000 first if there’s fire or smoke, then call us.
  • Sparking outlet or appliance: Don’t touch it. Turn off the corresponding circuit breaker at the switchboard. Unplug nothing.
  • Power loss after storm: Check your neighbours — if they’re out too, it’s an Energex outage, not your problem. Use Energex’s outage map to check. If it’s only your place, call us.
  • RCD keeps tripping: Don’t keep resetting it. RCDs trip for a reason. Call us before the repeated tripping causes a bigger problem.
  • Water near electrical: Turn off the main switch and stay away. Water + electricity is deadly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can you get to my Sunshine Coast emergency?

Typical response times from Currimundi base during business hours: Caloundra/Kawana 30–60 min, Maroochydore/Buderim 60–90 min, Noosa/Peregian 90–120 min. After hours is similar but depends on where we are when the call comes in. For any electrical emergency, call 0431 589 064 directly rather than using the contact form — forms sit in an inbox, phones get answered. If there’s smoke or fire, call 000 first, then us.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Burning plastic smell near outlets or the switchboard, smoke from electrical fittings, visible sparks from a power point or switch, total power loss that’s not an Energex-wide outage, sparking or melting in the switchboard, RCD safety switches that repeatedly trip and won’t reset, water contact with wiring (leaks, flooding), and any electrical shock from touching an appliance or fitting. If you’re unsure whether it’s an emergency, call us — we’ll talk you through it.

How much does an emergency callout cost?

After-hours emergency callouts carry an emergency rate that we quote upfront before we commit to the job — no surprises. Typical emergency callout fees run $200–$350 depending on time of night and distance, plus repair work at a fixed scope quote. We don’t bill hourly and we don’t use scare tactics to push unnecessary repairs. You’ll know the cost before we start work.

Is the power loss in my house an emergency or an Energex issue?

First step: check your neighbours. If they’re also without power, it’s an Energex grid outage and Energex will fix it — not us. Check the Energex outage map at energex.com.au or call 13 62 62. If only your house is affected, it’s a problem inside your switchboard or supply, and we can help. Common causes: tripped main breaker, failed RCD, broken supply cable, or in older homes a ceramic fuse that’s blown.

Can you deal with storm damage and insurance claims?

Yes. We regularly handle storm damage repairs — lightning strikes, water ingress, tree branches on lines, power surges that fry appliances. We provide an itemised report and compliance certificate suitable for insurance claims, and we can coordinate with Energex if the supply side of the meter is damaged. If you need an emergency repair before your insurer approves the claim, we can do the safety work first and the permanent repair after approval.

Do you charge extra for weekends and public holidays?

Emergency work on weekends and public holidays is billed at the same after-hours emergency rate as weeknights after 5pm. There’s no separate public holiday loading. We’ll quote the callout fee and job scope upfront over the phone so there’s no mystery when the invoice arrives.
