Compliance and Testing

Commercial premises have mandatory electrical compliance requirements that many businesses overlook until an insurance claim or workplace health inspection. We can handle all of them:

  • Emergency and exit lighting (AS 2293.2) — 6-monthly testing and 12-monthly discharge test with logbook
  • Test and tag of portable appliances — AS/NZS 3760 compliance for workplaces
  • RCD testing — periodic testing of safety switches in hostile environments
  • Thermal imaging of switchboards — identifies hot spots before they cause fires
  • Compliance certificates — for insurance, landlord requests, and WH&S audits

Annual testing contracts available — set and forget, we’ll remind you when testing is due.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you work around my business trading hours?

Yes — most of our commercial work is scheduled outside trading hours so your business keeps running. We regularly work evenings, nights, weekends, and early mornings for cafes, retail, and medical spaces that can’t afford downtime. After-hours rates are quoted upfront so there are no surprises. For planned projects we’ll work with your calendar — tell us the windows that work and we’ll fit around them.

Do you handle full commercial fit-outs?

Yes. We do full electrical fit-outs for retail, cafe, office, and medical spaces — from rough-in through to final commissioning. This includes power distribution, lighting design and install, three-phase where required, data cabling, emergency lighting, exhaust and HVAC wiring, and coordination with other trades. We work as the electrical contractor on projects from small tenancy refits up to larger commercial builds. Free quotes and scope discussions.

What commercial electrical testing do I legally need?

Depends on your premises and industry, but common mandatory tests include: emergency and exit lighting testing every 6 months with annual discharge test (AS 2293.2), test and tag of portable appliances per AS/NZS 3760 (frequency depends on environment — 3 months to 12 months), RCD safety switch testing, and fire safety statement electrical sections. Body corporate and strata also need common area lighting and pool electrical compliance. We can set up an annual testing contract so nothing falls through the cracks.

Can you upgrade my commercial lighting to LED?

Yes — LED upgrades are one of the fastest-payback commercial jobs we do. Replacing fluorescent tubes and halogen downlights with LED typically cuts lighting energy use by 50–70%, extends replacement cycles from 2–3 years to 10+, and often improves the quality of light. ROI is usually 18–36 months on the energy savings alone. We quote supply and install on a fixed scope basis and can do the work in a single after-hours session for most retail and office spaces.

Do you do three-phase installations for commercial kitchens?

Yes. Commercial kitchens typically need three-phase for ovens, dishwashers, induction cooktops, and exhaust hoods. We do new three-phase installs, upgrades to existing single-phase premises, and load balancing to ensure each phase stays within supply limits. We’re licensed for the refrigeration side too (ARC L113840) so cold rooms and walk-in freezer electrical and gas can be done as a single job.

Can you handle body-protected electrical for medical rooms?

Yes. Body-protected electrical (AS/NZS 3003) applies to rooms where patients have conductive devices in contact with the body — GP rooms, physio, medical imaging, dental. It requires specific RCD arrangements, equipotential bonding, and testing certification. We’re experienced with the standard and the Sunshine Coast Health Precinct is our regular working area. If you’re planning a medical fit-out, engage us early — the electrical has implications for room layout and approval.
